    M52TUB28 for sale

Engine came out of a wrecked 99 328i. Previous seller(high school shop teacher's shop class tear down project) stated that compression numbers were all within 5% of 175 cold.

Engine comes fully dressed with coils, injectors, intake manifold, wiring harness, auto ecu, maf, intake bellows, crankcase ventalation valve, etc...

Looking to get $600. Would prefer local pick up or delivery, but could ship if the deal was right.

    Thanks for looking.

Sorry, I am unsure what EWS components would be neccessary - just not familiar enough with this motor and the cars that use this motor.

Mileage was 146k according to the shop class instructor I sourced the motor from.

I could ship to you. I looked up where Oroville was...holy crap, you are way up Northeast!

I'd imagine that means you don't have them, not a huge deal.

        EWS components, all coming off the same car;
        Ignition key
        Ring Antenna
        Transmitter/receiver module
        EWS module
        ECU

Although I think you just need the key, EWS module, and ECU to all be from the same car; while the ring antenna and trans./receiv. can come off any EWS2 car.

;-) I actually live in Penticton BC, so I'm even further north. Just easier to ship to Oroville, and drive across the border to pick it up.

Did this shop teacher provide any maintenance records or anything of the sort?

I am very tempted to buy this off you.
Can you post some pictures, a link to an album, or email?

PM me if you wana email an I'll give you mine

        Cheers,

After looking at your list I do not have any of the ews stuff you specified.

I made the mistake of buying this before I knew the differences between a m52b28 aluminum block engine and the m52tub28 aluminum dual vanos engine. I then went ahead and bought the engine I actually needed. This engine has just been sitting in my shop for the last 4 months taking up space.

I'll get you pictures as soon as I can. It's your typical fully dressed motor sitting on a piano dolly.

Sorry, no maintainence records with the engine. At the time it didn't matter to me, as I was planning on tearing the whole thing down for a race rebuild. All I really know is the mileage I was told and the compression numbers I was told.

So after doing some more reading up I won't be buying the engine.

Didn't realize these ran ews3.3, so it can't be "tuned" out, yet. And getting all the components from some1 parting their car appears to be fairly difficult, not to mention frustrating as most people who own e46's don't understand the system.

I didn't see this up on e46fanatics? You should put it up, I'd imagine you'll sell the thing off pretty quickly there.

Thanks for the tip on the e46fanatics site. I'll register and attempt to post over there.

Just curious - were you considering running this OBDII in an e30, or in an e46? For most people the EWS stuff would not matter, as most would convert to OBDI.

Sorry that this wasn't a solution for you, but thanks for getting back to me.

I would've been running it obd2 in an e21, or possibly an e30.

The m52tu is a dual vanos motor, so I don't think converting to obd1 would be sensible, as an obd1 ecu can only control intake cam timing, not intake+exhaust...I could be wrong as that is all internet hear-say, nothing firsthand..But, Im confident thats true.

Anyways, my fault for not knowing enough about the engine/electronics before posting.

I either need to find a written-off e46, e39, e36/7...or just give up on running a dual vanos motor all together, would probably make things easier.

You could convert it to OBD1 and run it on a 413 ecu and use a standalone chip to run the VANOS, www.seattlecircuit.com offers one such VANOS controller.

Thanks for the information contribution Danny.

OBDI with a seperate circuit board is the only way to roll here in an e30 or e21. The crankcase ventilation system and the drive by wire on the dual vanos engines are a pain in the ass. Much easier to simplify things with an OBDI intake and ECU.
