you don't need to, but its very dangerous. all i know is in a newbish attempt to separate springs from the mounts, i pulled the mounts off and shit went flying. I did not take off the second spring until I had shock tools

What springs? Stock ones will do that,yes, but some aftermarket ones won't.

I'd like to sell the billy's & IE3's together, like I said they are already assembled for a quick install.

I bought them from Halston and never installed them, he tested them before selling them to me.

Take a look at the picture, the springs have no tension on them.
