That sure looks like a B35 to me. 88-89 635csi were B35. Easiest way to be sure is to run the VIN (right over where the starter goes on the block) or put the motor on top dead cylinder, pull the #1 plug and look in there with borescope.
A B34 will have a dish in the middle of the piston like so:

A B35 will have slight dome in the middle like so:
