· Helps avoid oil starvation by keeping the oil in the pan during hard braking and turning as well as during off-road driving
· Helps to cool critical engine parts by quickly returning heated oil to the sump
· Helps to prevent the cylinder walls from being overloaded with oil
· Can help with fuel efficiency

The Teflon section can come closer to the rotating crank because it will not damage it when it passes through. The Teflon part is mostly bought for tracking when every bit counts in a Spec class.

That Teflon scraper is the best one out there for the M20. If I were in the market I would jump on this.

In my experience, every car has been slightly different. Some of them go straight on, some need a tiny bit of tweaking. It's not a big deal.
