Why not go to Thule.com to the fitment section-punch in 1989 BMW model 3 series and see what Thule-the manufacture of my rack suggests you buy for your model and year. All cars many YEARS ago had rain gutters. This is why the model 300 towers used to fit just about every car on the road up until around 1990 when the car makers made the cars more streamlined and thus did away with rain gutters. My rack fits cars with rain gutters and will fit just about every vehicle built from the 1950s-1990. I suggest any buyer of new or used parts do their own research before buying anything new or used.
