From my 1987 325E I have two young Girling rebuilt front calipers with pads with about half the friction material remaining. I never talked with the P. O. about the brakes but have been working and playing with cars since 1972. I know what recent rebuilt calipers look like. They have a thin coating of brown rust whereas the carriers have a dark black patina of oil,grease and dirt. When I replace calipers I clean everything spotless.
