Free bump. Had the E39 M5 shift knob/boot in my old Touring. You can replace the odd-shaped E39 plastic bracket to make it fit in other BMWs. (E34 pictured below).

No cutting was necessary. I just pried the E39 plastic frame off and glued the E34 frame on, using binder clips to hold it tight while the glue dried. There was a little extra leather that I bunched together at the front of the frame. If I had some leather sewing skills, I would have taken apart the seam, and resewn it to fit exactly.DrewZ
