You can make them height adjustable with the correct brackets. Janderson sold some recaro to e30 base adapters which retains the up/down feature.

Pretty sure the adapters are used to get recaro bottom mount seats bolted to stock sliding rails Only... (wish they did work for height too)

however... if you dig on real OEM in euro M3 seat section... this comes up... Looks like some bottom mount seats may have been vertically adjustable from factory... would need to ask S14 guys with the well optioned cars.
