I'm not trying to be a dick, but with transfer cases I can't trust word of mouth anymore, especially for someone with no posts. I've already spent nearly a grand trying to find a 'good' case. I appreciate you trying to help the community, but the last guy said the same thing and left me hanging $400 with a busted case.1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug

two primary problems mainly exist with the transfer case; the input shaft spines and output shaft to the front splines get stripped. You get the proverbial front end chatter as the front wheels try gripping. The second problem are the clutches wearing out. I've rarely seen a chain break or get stretched. Everything else is pretty robust inside the casing. I see more of the auto's breaking then the stick. I just pulled 3 apart; 2 sticks and 1 auto. The auto is the one we're fixing and it is the front shaft splines and input shaft splines worn down. the one stick had the same problem. One interesting remedy for this which we happen to have, is welding the shaft to the input. We pulled a tranny and transfer case out with the shaft stuck to it. lolsigpicComment
