I'm not that up with servers vs desktop but you state it can be used as a desktop computer... does it have software to run or that has to be bought?

OSX Server works great as a desktop operating system, it just hase some features you will never use. Also, I can include just straight up OS X maybe even 10.4 (Newest version) if you would like.

EDIT:

So yes, it comes with desktop software. Most stuff you would need comes with OSX.
