Feeler ~ Built M52B28 swap ready ~ Nashville

Ok, after much soul searching I don't think it's going to be feasible to try to put this motor in my new E46 323. I am going to call TRM and talk to them about the possibility, but wanted to see if there's interest here should I get shot down. If I could figure out how to successfully install the ITB's as well, I'd do that too!

Purchased 2 years back, new build on aluminum block m52, OBD1 wired. Currently installed in my e34 project in Nashville, TN. Got it started and running, no tune, and we didn't finish the 5 speed swap to actually drive it. The whole video was cut after the second start, but it friggin sang. I didn't realize an I6 could sound so mean. Rev from idle to 6k was sportbike-ish. Hate that I don't believe I can use it.

I can't confirm internals, but what was listed when I traded my sportster for it was VAC cams, mild head work, Becker (?) 50mm ITB's, stroked, upped compression. I added the VAC oil plate and Raceland shorty headers. Short vid of start up, Nov 2010:

The guy I bought it from and doing the work took a downhill turn, and disappeared on me after he was searching for a new shop. Motor was assembled while he was working at Akin BMW in Nashville.

Hard to put a price on this, so I'm throwing a number out there. Willing to talk about it with whoever may be interested in this. In the pics and vid you'll see an ASA blower on it, I'm keeping it and installing it on the e46, so it's motor only guys.

Let's say 3000 OBO (I've got more in it for sure)

Can we get a pic of the pistons? Are they aftermarket or is this an aluminum M52 with S52 crank and stuff?

If so, its a 3.1 IIRC with S52 crank. Interested for more details.

These are the only other two pics I have with the head off. I got the motor assembled and never saw them, so for the "stroked" portion of it, I can't say for sure. When we talked, he did say it was about a 3.2, so 3.1 would fit the description.

I'm not trying to sound sketchy, just putting what info I know about the motor. I know it's cammed from when we ran it. Also stated to me during the deal was 11.5:1 compression, but have no way to verify that. I've heard higher compression motors run, and I wouldn't doubt this is, but again, can't verify.

I've got a call in to TMS, and I'd love to have this run in the e46. Running, it's better than Viagra. I just don't think it's going to jive on a tuned factory DME, and I don't want to do stand alone on a daily car.

I can do it a couple of ways.

I can pull the motor, and it goes as it sits in the e34 with wiring harness, minus the blower and bracket (see first pic in first post). There's a 250 tranny attached to it, worthless to me so it can go with it too. I don't think it would have lasted very long anyway. I haven't been in the car for a while, it's at a buddy of mine's private shop in TN, and I haven't had him check to see if the airbox is in there. It should also be noted that in the pictures, there's nitrous plumbing, but there is not any in the final version of this. As a forgotten side note, those are Ford 42lb injectors.

                OR:

I can have him pull the blower and bracket, and let the entire e34 go and someone could part the car out if they wanted. There is no 5 spd pedal box or shifter in the car, it was an auto, and I didn't get that far. There's no exhaust piping past the headers, there may be a driveshaft, I'm not certain.

Again, I'm very very torn trying to sell this and not at least attempt to find a way to get it to work in the e46, even just trying the ITB's. Unfortunately, I think the best (and easiest) idea for the e46 is to find a M54B30 intake, and run the blower on it with exhaust and tune and hopefully hit 300 with that. I'm pissed the guy ghosted out, he has my other perfectly good running M50 as well.

                  OK,

Two shops later, it will not go in reasonably to the e46. Wiring would be a major undertaking to adapt.

So, it's official, engine is for sale.

If you end up parting it out, I'd be very interested in the ITB setup.

Honestly can't see myself parting it out. I wouldn't mind keeping the VAC oil plate for the feed/return on the ASA, but the rest would give me a headache trying to price and ship pieces.

Never know, depends on how things go.

                        Bump up
