    FS BNIB M20 Header

Yep, it is a OBX, but for as cheap as it is, I am very impressed. Was gonna keep it to morf it into a header my 16v scirocco 1, but figured I need some cash. The tig welds are actually pretty nice, I can say so as I am a welder. My plan was to weld this into a 2.5'' single exhaust but I had rotator cuff surgery and had to sell my E30 last fall, I was gonna keep it just for the plumbing, but as I said earlier I could use the cash. Since I have purchased these they have stopped selling the E30 M20 headers like these, so I can't find a comparable price for these, and forgot what I paid, I think it was in the low $200 dollar range, so $175 shipped in the lower 48.
    Thanks
    Morgan

No, I don't think you would need any mods in that instance, and I spend a lot of time up in Rowe, Charlemont area so It wouldn't be hard to meet up at all.

Chris, from what I gathered it will work, but you have to do some fabbing of the header to the exhaust. Not a plug and play with the e21 exhaust, but it can work, and is a better option then the m20 manifold, then custom down pipes to the e21 exhaust, from what I gather a lot of people use this header, then fab up a custom 2.5" exhaust. I hate to break it to you, but the X-pipes do not fit on these headers (they hug the body wayyyyy too tight) . You need to make something custom from the collector to your mid pipe. And you really should have a flex pipe in there too, having the headers go straight to the rest of the system with nothing to "give" is a horrible idea. I bought mine for $80 shipped, but the "stainless" tubing has almost all rusted. You could maybe get $120 (+ shipping), but they wont sell quick. Good luck, sorry to crap on your headers, but they don't fit.

Hogwash, plenty of people run these with no issues, and the only fitment issues are on the IXs. There are also plenty of header systems out there just like these with out a flex pipe, they way the exhaust hangers are designed is so the exhaust can grow and shrink longitudinally. I am a welder so I know a little something about metallurgy, the stainless used for the bends is pretty good, no magnetic properties which means no iron, the straight stock used is a little bit magnetic, but a lot of stainless that you find out there is. Either way it is probably 409 witch by nature will rust up a bit anyway.
I have had a banks exhaust on my superduty for 10 years, and it has not looked pretty since 8 years ago, but still very solid.

Thanks for your slandering post, But your info is just not correct. This is a great deal compared to the real headers out there that your gonna have to cough up at least $700 for. not everyone with a 20+ year old car can do that.

Well after some research I will proudly admit that I am wrong. pantelones post was obnoxious, and was abrasive, but... If he approached it like he did in this PM then I think I would have put more stock in his original post.

Ok, so I don't want to argue with you, but I do want to set things straight. My set does not fit, they are rusted, and they are NOT magnetic. I am also a welder (what a coincidence?) and I took a metallurgy class this past semester, so I also know a thing or two about stainless. They used fillers and other alloys to cut cost (also very thin wall), hence the price tag or around $200; the tubing alone would cost at least $125-$200 depending on the market at the time. They fit in the bay good, but they do come close to the motor mount. The X-pipe is angled too far up toward the body, mine was pushing so hard against the tranny mount it was compressing the bushing. As you can see I heated and bent it down a little bit, but I ran out of mapp gas and couldn't finish "annealing" the pipe into the shape I wanted. I had to cut the X-pipe off to get access to the tranny mount when I put the motor back in. I have seen a few other people who have the same problem, they fit great, except for the X-pipe....

And flex pipes are for cars that either have soft motor/trans mounts or boosted motors that have dramatic surges causing the motor to "rock". The flex pipe allows for movement ( and thermal expansion as you noted), and is a good idea for the longevity of the system. As a welder you should have it ingrained into your brain to do it right the first time, and not have to second guess your work. That's why we get paid up to $100 an hour right?

Again I'm not trying to pick a fight, I was un-happy with the way mine fit, and I have read other people having the exact same issues. Take it as you will....

So Matt, thanks for clearing that up, and by explaining yourself in a calm manner. I do also agree about the flex pipe, as that is what I was going to do, cut it at the x-pipe, and go into a single 2.5" header back. It is not imperative, but a good idea.
Here is another post i found about fitment issues.http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ht=obx+headers
I know this is not going to help the sale of these, but I do not want to be misleading, or have someone buy something that doesn't work for them. I guess if you wanted to do what I was going to do, then they would be a good match for you, but... I am going to remain pretty solid on my price as I may use them on a future project. Hope this clear up the grey area in the fitment department.
