History:
I bought the car from the original owner in December 2010. The original owner was a USAF fighter pilot and the car came with stacks of records. I picked up where he left off and have put on around 20,000. Upon receiving the car, I did all the maintenance I though necessary to keep an M42 healthy and then a few silly things. The A/C was not charged, nor did I ever attempt to charge it. The engine was pulled to swap an OBDI M52.
It has been an extremely healthy motor and does not act it's age. Never had any issues. (See videos)
Bullet points:
-Deleted mess under the intake.
-Resealed intake with OEM gaskets and Red RTV
-New OEM intake boot
-Replaced ICV with newer ICV.
-Changed/flushed all fluids
-Ran Amsoil 0w40
-New Continental belts
-Timing chain tensioner
-New VR valve cover gaskets
-Replaced lower pan and applied red loctite oil pump bolts
-Rolled Cam forward <3deg
-Installed eBay Chip (Noticeable gains. OEM chip included)
-Clutch does not slip, but I have not measured the friction material thickness.
Bad:
-The existing cam gears are sharp and should be replaced.
-Profile gasket leaks. (Typical M42 weakness).
-The block is dirty from profile gasket.
-Still leaks oil (Like a dumbass. I used red RTV on lower pan).
-Not really bad, but rolling cam forward causes lumpy idle.
