    Shortened strut housing thread

So I really love making these, and I want to offer something to the community. I have made 6 sets now and have them made and out the door in a day.

I have two sets of housings laying around for the mod. I also accept your housings, YOU ship to me AND back. Get a pre-paid and they will leave when the paint is cured.

I offer up to 3" removed(depends on how stupid low you want), normal is 1" that is an automatic 1" drop once installed.
    E30 M3 sway link tabs
    Spindle to housing tube bracing
    Tube base bead welded

Remember when Danny's spindle busted off and smashed up his old e30? Those last two keep that from ever happening.

    *Please read*
When you have the housing shortened what you are getting is travel in the strut. Lower mounting of the insert GAINS that amount in travel. More travel means you can go LOWER and still retain proper dampening and keep the inserts from bottoming out internally.

1" is PERFECT for daily and track use
    1.5-2" is for more of a stance'd e30
2.5-3" is for pretty much only for being insanely low. Pretty much like using bags but static.

    *Prices*
    Work to your provided housings:
    Just shorten(includes perches): 100.00(pair)
    E30 M3 tabs +75(IE charges 25 per tab)
*contact Ground-control.com for the custom links*
    Spindle reinforcement/base weld +35
Base weld without spindle bracing +10

Want everything listed above? 200.00, that is no BS out of the box cut your spacer and install.

Comes painted black(I use engine temp paint over etching primer)

I am NOT limited to e30 housings, any make and model car. Tell me how much you want gone and it is done to your specs. Want to shorten classic E3,E9 e24, e28 etc does not matter what make, model euro, jap. I will get you low, zero issues.

I will update with more once I get them in from my travels. But prices are above reflect weld/fab work on your provided housings.

These are forum member Nick325is that he sent me. Used the GC perches, but this picture gives a better shot of the base weld and M3 link tabs.

    Spindle reinforcement:

Installed/finished, notice the adjuster collars are same width as the red screw collar. This allows for very low settings if you ever desire it lol.

To give you an idea of how the work in motion. This is my e30

Do you have better pictures of your hub/strut re-enforcement?

I've always seen them boxed like this or more

That is the best one I have right now, and one of my first tube enforcement. I use thick plate steel for the bracing. It is no issue at all to move it up above the way the one you posted is done. That would take less effort really. But there is no way the bracing would fail the way I fab'd it. The metal is far too thick and the welds matched.

I forgot the model # welder I use, but it is a Miller MIG. Welds up to 3/4 or something retarded thick.

Thanks guys! I will have one set done this weekend. 1" removed and the works done to it. I have this SAME setup and I was able to lay the frame with the coils spun down. Granted the car was useless and I was stuck in my drive way...like the pan would not allow me to move...FrankM an his friend helped me move it when I was 1/4 off the ground.

$100 for sectioned housings? Very tempting. I'll take you up on this if I have the extra money when doing my coilovers.

Everything was listed... starts at 100 for just shortening. Each extra option is added onto the base price of the shorten mod. Or get everything for 200.00

The price does not change if you provide the perches or not. This is for my service of fab work. If you don't have them I will make up some. If you do send them along.

I do two coats of primer and three coats of 1,500 degree engine temp enamel paint. It WILL not rust or chip.

If you want PC'd I can send them off to Renewed Finishes for any color you desire. That is between you and Dave.

I leave the spacer up to you as I will not have the inserts to measure off of. Depends on what ones you use etc. If you send them along I will send the housings back with the spacer and all buttoned up for the cost of the tubing. Nothing more.

Hope that answers all your questions.

I'm gonna have 5" front springs so it'll go fucking low. If I get iX billies and shorten it 3" I'll probably be able to set my pan on the ground. Would you also be able to cut off the stupid brake warmer things?

3" is extreme man, I cut out 1" and laid my pan on the ground with 1/4 left to my collar to spin down on. Remember that with just the 1" removed and leaving the coil at the height before you will drop 1" unchanged. I am tucking 17" wheels with 215/40 and have a remaining of 2" to my adjuster in the front to spin down on. Anymore and I would not be able to turn the car for corners...lol

If you want the MOST cut out of them I will need the inserts sent to me. I am not going to cut them up and make the inserts not fit correctly.

Only way I can see you make use of over 1.5 is some lower et wheels with stretched tires to clear the fenders and a ton of camber. Oh, and a love of changing oil pans, a skid plate WILL not fit under there that low.

Edit: I was using 14" wheels and stock et to clear the inner wells.

Yeah, I'd probably only go an inch to stay off the bump stops. I need to see if it all fits my budget though. I'll only have a few hundred bucks left, and I still have to buy wheels and tires.
