Would be perfect candidate for M50 stroker motor. Could sell the head and block and still come out on top. I have to say OP, its totally retarded that this motor is still for sale considering the price. r3v cheapos, even if this was a blown head gasket motor, the bottom end (crank, rods, pistons) is worth $500 alone.Comment

Thank you sir. That was my original plan, use the rotating assembly to put together a 3 liter M50. I hope someone has the same idea!Would be perfect candidate for M50 stroker motor. im still thinking about it man, portland washington aint far away, trying to talk to my buddy and see what all id need to toss this puppy in you know. if it hooks up to my stock e30 trans that will be cheaper but i would need brake booster, oil pan, different exhaust, steering rack, and all that crap too rightComment

I will PM you
Need brake booster, oil pan, but not the steering rack. Although if you wanted to upgrade the rack, it would be easy to do while the engine is outim still thinking about it man, portland washington aint far away, trying to talk to my buddy and see what all id need to toss this puppy in you know. if it hooks up to my stock e30 trans that will be cheaper but i would need brake booster, oil pan, different exhaust, steering rack, and all that crap too rightComment

Get some. ;)
All you need is an E34 M50 oil pan, dipstick and pickup tube. (~100-150 here on r3v, less than $50 at a junkyard) Trans mounts up exactly the same, might want to look into clutch/flywheel setup, starter too is you go with e30 flywheel. And I am not 100% but you might need a different driveshaft. Steering rack can be changed even with the motor in, its not that hard. Any motor swap other than M20 is going to need a new brake booster, so don't get pissed about that. Just do it.im still thinking about it man, portland washington aint far away, trying to talk to my buddy and see what all id need to toss this puppy in you know. if it hooks up to my stock e30 trans that will be cheaper but i would need brake booster, oil pan, different exhaust, steering rack, and all that crap too right
I hope one of these cheapos picks it up. You got a good thing going here sir.Comment

Thanks man. Yes a different drive shaft is needed, I forget which one. Also, using the stock single mass M20B25 flywheel and any clutch setup (stock or upgrade) will work fine. It will need some wiring work, but there are pretty straightforward ways around that. I bet there are a few companies/people on here who could convert the harness for youGet some. ;)

Dont mean to thread jack, but whats an M54 bottom end worth from a 325xi?Comment
-
Bottom end, as in rotating assembly, should be the same as the 2WD cars. The black may be different, not sureif that is worth any more than a standard block.
It maybe like trying to sell an E30 iX engine, you know it's kind of rare and hard to find, but it takes months to sell versus a standard engine
