Got mine installed. Pretty solid. Just 2 callouts:
1) best suggestion on drilling the holes for the front mount? I installed the new steering rack bolts, marked the 5 holes and removed again to drill the pilot holes. After drilling, installed the rear bolts again. I tried to mount the front bolts to the metal plate with the nuts. Good lord it was difficult!
2) the skid plate sits about another 1.5" (did not measure--a calculated guess) lower than the actual oil pan. So now my clearance to the ground is even lower. Any way you can make it as close as possible to the oil pan?1991 318IS

2) There should only be about 1/2" space. Did someone install motor mount spacers? What engine to you have? Did you get the right skid plate?
If you have a 1.5" space something is definitely up. Can you email me some pics?
