Late Nodel pedals came on 89-93 e30s have a plastic clutch pedal and a different spring mechanism, and fit into airbag cars only

Most people opt for an early model box because of the metal clutch pedal and simpler spring mechanism. They fit into non-airbag cars only, but you can retrofit the clutch pedal and spring mechanism into late model pedal-boxes

Above is an early model pedal that will fit into all e30s up to 88, and some early production 89s (you will know because it doesn't come equity with an airbag or sensors in the engine bay)
