You just need to bend the selector rod upwards until it clears the dampener.

    Or, remove the dampener completely.

Just got the tracking on my stuff today! Thanks, man.

I installed the z3 1.9. Didn't use either of the yellow washers because it was too tight to clip on the circlip.

Anyway, after installing, 1st and 3rd gear feels fine. But reverse, 2nd, and 4th I m getting a grinding, rubbing vibration. Did anyone who installed the z3 1.9 have to remove the vibration damper?

Please read the post just above yours, honestly, most people already have their's removed so if I were you I would remove it too!

How do you bend the rod upward? It looks like a pain to remove the damper and the guibo(?) in order to remove the selector rod.

Thanks. I honestly thought it would be a direct fit, no mods need. Apparently I am wrong.

I would recommend removing the vibration dampener to anyone installing ANY short shifter. There is no downside to removing this. If you want shorter shifts this just has to be done.

Is it possible for me to buy just the Z3 2.8 lever?
Edit: or z3m would be even better.

I'm running a z4 3.0 lever and i haven't had any issues with guibo clearance. the bottom of the lever sometimes contacts the driveshaft directly, so i will be modifying the shift arm bracket in the rear to get a bit more clearance.
