I am no expert, but I did spend quite some time researching what I can on the different flywheels because I did a 5 speed swap on an 86 528e and that is the year they had the change over on the flywheels so I had to figure out exactly which one I had.
From what I concluded there are 3 different flywheels for the eta engines..
the lightest is the 1982 528e flywheel
then there is the larger single mass which is pictured.. from 83-86 528e, and I guess early 325e(until 87?).
Finally there is the later dual mass flywheels.
and of course the light "i" flywheel.Last edited by RondoAcapriccio; 04-13-2014, 09:18 PM.

Well, now im doubting, i bought my e30 back in 2009 and it was already converted to manual. Until 2011 i think, i decided to change the clutch because i was gonna reseal tranny and do guibo and such. And because i didnt know which flywheel the po used i decided to find a single mass and buy a clutch accordingly. Sure enough thats what i did. When old "pictured" flywheel was pulled it compared as double the size of the single mass i bought off this same forums. How could i deffinitly pinpoint this issue now?

I could always be wrong, but I did install what I believe were the clutch and PP for a single mass and have been driving my car for about 400 miles now... haven't had an issue yet. My car is actually a 1982 but the donor was an 86...
There are some other subtle differences, is your car originally an eta or an i? Because if that's the case you simply went from an eta flywheel to an i flywheel... the difference aside from weight from my understanding is the reference pin.. which is necessary on eta engines but not on i engines.
dual mass.. http://www.understeer.com/pdf/dualmass.pdf
I have not seen anything that would set me to believe that I am wrong thus far, so maybe someone more knowledgeable can come in and confirm or deny, and if that's the case then I will delete my post because I don't want to contribute to the misinformation regarding this subject.Last edited by RondoAcapriccio; 04-13-2014, 09:21 PM.

My car is an i originaly and the po used an eta tranny i beleive because it has the old style carrier. The new flywheel i installed is like the right one in your pic.

Well, ot appears to be that this flywheel is indeed an e28 single mass. So its up for sale anyways.

I had it on my m20 with g260. Mileage is unknown, came in car when i bought it in late 2009. I changed it in 2011 iirc! Was working perfect.
