FS is the power plant from my 1988 325iS. This engine has 240k on it. This engine runs GREAT. I just did a major tune up and rebuild. Engine was fired up before pulling also. Of the 4 m20 powered e30s I have owned, this one pulled the hardest and ran the smoothest, it was very well maintained. I am ONLY selling it as I have my eye on a different engine for my 2002. This was going to go in next week but my plans are changing slightly... looking at instead having 4 cylinders, ITBs, and 2.3 liters ;);D
Specifics:
885 cylinder head was reworked 6 months ago by Motor Machine Super Shop in Sacramento. New valves, valve seals, cam checked, replaced rockers, valves adjusted. OEM BMW head gasket and head bolts were used, intake manifold/ throttle body/ valve cover all got new gaskets, new rocker plugs, cam shaft seal, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, tensioner spring and pin, new coolant hoses, new spark plugs, m50 injectors, Bosch cap and rotor, and throttle body coolant loop deleted at this time. All in all, this was well over $1200 on the maintenance and top end rebuild. The block surface was cleaned at this time and new guide pins were installed.
Power steering pump is intact and functioning as it should. Alternator is there and functioning great. The intake system has a new boot, replacement AFM from a low mileage e30. I did the oil pan gasket 1.5 years ago. Oil pan has a thick welded on plate. Dropped pan off at Fusion Welding to have a tiny crack repaired and the guy wanted to test out his aluminum skills I guess so he welded on a 3mm aluminum plate to the front lower edge.
Exhaust manifold is there but the exhaust was separated after the manifold at the down pipes. Manifold has new gaskets.
Engine will come with:
Rebuilt Programa 153 ECU
Wiring harness
Subframe (its bolted on right now using Condor solid bushings)
Ireland Engineering windage tray/ crank scraper uninstalled but brand new.
Intake manifold and valve cover were stripped and painted AWII. They could use a touch up or a repainting but look great as is.
This M20 needs:
New oil pressure sensor/ wires to be connect up. I accidentally tore the wires out of the sensor at some point and never fixed this.
It leaks a tiny tiny coolant amount of coolant from the water pump. I guess I didnt make a perfect seal somehow. Ill toss in a new gasket, just replace it while the engine is out.
The engine always has a little wet oil spot on the block corner closest to the passenger side front. Ive seen a lot of E30s lose oil here before and after a head job. Mine did before I did the head gasket an currently does now. Its not leaking oil, and the engine never goes low on oil, but I notice that I have to wipe this area clean every month or so.
Probably due for a valve cover gasket also, Im noticing a little bit of oil weep around it on the firewall side.
This engine IMO is a bargain with the work that has gone in and the accessories it come with. I will not accept offers, $1000 picked up in San Jose, CA. I dont have an engine hoist currently, it was stolen last week so well have to figure out how to lift it into your truck. Its on a wheeled dolley now. If there are other components you'd need for the swap let me know, I should have them all boxed up and I am just forgetting about them, but they will be included.
I can have some fellow R3Vers attest to the running condition and quality of this m20b25. Priced to sell fast or else it goes into storage for a future 2002. I do not have the factory trans or driveline. A Getrag 265/5 close ratio dogleg gear box with M20 bell housing can be possibly be included for another $2500.
This engine is ready to bolt up to your e30 as a replacement or a swap from your m20b27, or better yet, to ditch the m42 in your 318 (I currently have 2 m42 powered e30s and will NEVER understand the allure of it over the m20... but to each his own I guess).
