Hey r3v,

Just pulled this set of shocks from my '88 m3. None of the shocks clunked or were blown, however there was a small amount of oil on the bottoms of the front. I have no idea on the mileage, but still function properly. Only reason I swapped them is because I had a brand new set to put in.

It is, in auto my teacher was telling me the extra oil left inside cools the new, sealed shocks down. Could be possible the shop didn't pour out that old fluid and left it in.

Though I'd like to say I'm not sure if your suppose to leave the fluid in for both gas and hydraulic shocks, I'm sure google can chime in
