I am not sure what caused the HG issue, I have never had the motor overheat.
My mention of the m20 stroker being "unreliable" is more a knock on motronic 1.3, let just say I am not a fan of the system. I know it works just fine, and folks like Miller with the war chip have made it even better for people that want to tune the system, but it is still a 25 year old engine management system. Ideally I would swap in megasquirt, but I just find myself not interested in engine tuning. As such I feel like this motor is wasted on me, and I would prefer to have a proven and, it kills me to say this, more common powerplant under the hood. Basically I am lazy and need someone else to do the tuning legwork.
Let it be known that the only issues I have ever had with this engine, apart from the head gasket, were caused by motronic 1.3 and its components (this includes fuel pumps...) The m20 can be a very reliable motor, and this one is no different, its just much better at pulling up stumps (disclaimer: I have never used it to pull stumps)Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Well I am extremely interested please keep me updated on when the motor is pulled from the car, so we can go over the options. Thank you.I am not sure what caused the HG issue, I have never had the motor overheat.

I have a line on an engine and transmission. I picked up a few other swap parts this weekend.
If anyone is interested in the transmission and has a known good g260 withe driveshaft shift linkage and cross member I can knock off a couple hundred.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

update: found this old PM from 2008 when I asked Stu Mchenry if he remembered any details of the engine build. Some of the details dont match what Pete said of the motor, mainly compression, in which case id lean toward Pete's word.

Hey man,
I hope the motor is running well for you, I remember helping your father or grandfather load the motor into his truck.
Unfortunately I don't remember the exact specs of that particular motor, but what I'm fairly certain of:
-85.8mm '95 M3 crank
-135mm rods
-Either milled M42/M44 pistons (84mm) or custom forged 85mm (not sure which..)
-roughly 9.5:1 c/r....might be higher
-ported 885 'i' head with 5-angle valve job
-Schrick 284/272 dual pattern
Unfortunately my brother never ran that motor to its full potential. He put it in his 325e and ran it with the 2.93LSD and stock air-flow meter. I don't think it even had a chip in it (just a stock 'i' chip).
The motor would benefit greatly from:
big 6 AFM (or MAF)
headers
deleted cat
performance muffler
and a custom tune
A local guys 3.0L M20 built to similar specs (with exhaust and chip) put down 202whp and even more torque; so they have potential
Stu

The engine CAN come with a harness from an '89 modified to fit in an '86. CAN also come with a 173 ECU with the Mark D chip (the mark d tune called for 24lb injectors which i still have, I have been using 19lb injectors with the war chip)
The transmission WILL come with sheetmetal console, custom DSSR w/hardware, driveshaft with fairly new csb, e30 x memeber, e21 x member, guibo, z3 shift lever, and dogleg shift knob.
the War chip will come installed in a 173 ecu with the usb tuning cable and tune selector knob installed. the PSIK will come with the cone filter.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I'm willing to purchase the complete engine from you. Do not need the harness, trans, warchip, psik etc. Just the head/block accessories etc. Please let me know. Thanks.

Haha, I hope to hear from rigmaster in the next few days about getting my engine out of one of his cars. After that I will need to place a few other parts orders and do some engine freshening up.
Throw in a week of vacation in 2 weeks... I'm doing my best...Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.
