The aluminum rings aren't actually metal either. Got mine yesterday and on a small spot on one of the edges the "aluminum paint" was peeled off. I took a knife to the inside edge where its not visible and sure enough it came right off. Plastic underneath. I'm guessing they are dipped or sprayed with a thin layer of aluminum finish.
Also the two small rings do not stay in place. They move freely and one keeps falling out so I might have to secure it in place. They still look good though.

Yes they are metallic dipped. As for the rings not staying in place, you may have a cluster that differs slightly in size. I have a cluster here I fit each ring before shipping to make sure it isn't too loose. Sorry for any issues you may have had. You can send them back if you would like.
