The big black thing is the charging circuit.
The instructions I include covers everything. They take 3-4 mins to read, and you'll know everything (and more then) you wanted to. I include them for total first timers. The rest of you will just be able to snap it into place and hook up power.
As far as "constant power" vs "ACC"(switched power when the key is out, it's off), that's covered in the instructions as well. You can hook it up to constant power if you want. When nothing is plug in into it, it uses almost no power (~3mA or 0.003 Amps), so you totally can. I cover the pro and cons of that in detail in the instructions.
