On a s38 b35 b36 and b38 allows the Motor sit closer to subframe. Almost 2" lower than e34 m5 oil pan. You don't need to 20mm subframe spacers. It also allows you to have a full 1" closer to steering rack. If you have a real Hartge H35-24 e30 or e30 m3. It will make easier to fit. I found a few H35 oil pans for sale. At 3500 is on the low side.
