I agree with the first part, you'd have to drop the head to damage the valves. But I believe the valve heads do hang down below the deck surface of the head when they are held open by the cam. I just had my head off and had to space it about 1/2" off my workbench to keep the valves from hitting. I know with my Catcam they are below, but IIRC the stock cam also made them interfere, at the outboard side of the intakes.
That's at a fair amount of lift, is it possible to turn the cam so the valves are all low enough to clear? I didn't bother to check that.1973 BavariaComment
