Feeler: 84 633CSi Parts Car or the M30 in it

My brother bought a 1984 633CSi back in Dec. for $1100 and has been driving the crap out of it with hopes to restore it. Unfortunately, one Saturday of trying to take care of rust spots revealed the car had substantial rust that was hidden by 50lbs of bondo TN redneck style. Needless to say I told him to drive the car into the ground and buy something else (E30ish).

    The Good:

    - Engine is good and strong
    - Transmission shifts fine and is strong
    - The wheels and tires are good
    - Most all the electronics work great
    - Brakes work fine.

    The Bad:

    - The car has a salvaged title. The body has rust all over the back end. Car was salvage due to the rear of the car rolling down a boat ramp and into a lake so the entire rear of the car ate up with rusty cancer.

    - Suspension is shit.
    - Interior is shit.
    - Rear diff is noisy
    - A/C No longer blows cold.
    - Holes around rear wheel wells where rust was cut out of the body and treated with naval jelly.
    -Power Steering hose is leaking.
-Exterior cheap redneck half assed paint job - A stock BMW purplish color like you would see on a Z3.

If anyone is interested he's looking to get $800 out of the entire car. It still runs and drives no problem so you can drive it home. He drives it from Knoxville, TN to Cookeville, TN quite regularly.

What I need to know is if it's better to sell the car as a whole or if more people would be interested in buying the engine and tranny if we were to pull them out.

He needs to money to pursue buying a better car ASAP.

I believe the engine has around 125,000 miles on it. The odomoeter is now dead though. It was owned by a retired old hippy lady and driven 2-3 times a week.

Yes it is a 5 speed manual.

I guess Mossman set the price on the tranny if we decide to part it. It will all depend on what we can get accomplished tomorrow finding him a worthy replacement car.

I will also have to smooth things over with the wife to be sure she's cool with us parting another BMW in the driveway.

Anyone looking to do an M30 swap?

Does the car have good fenders? Drivers door? Hood?

I am getting a free 633 donor (no rust! woot!) to accept all my euro pieces, but I may need those body pieces...

Passenger side fender had rust that I cut out and treated. Driver's side fender is in good shape hood has some small surface rust spots but was not dented anywhere. The rear fenders are far beyond gone with rust.
