if anyone is interested in doing there headlights/park lights or tails i recommend this brand. the can is $25 and is small but well worth the results at the end and can do all your lights etc..
they sell smoke bimmer lights and other vdub lights which are darker then mines plus i have h.i.ds and still get the same veiw at night and hardly use my fogs or highbeams.
and theres no pitting etc since was baked and laminx only comes in light smoke or dark smoke which both are darker then my 1 coat. also the laminx is to thick my boy has them on his e46 and from far away they look good from up close u can tell that its a flim.
numbnuts,
If you take a closer gander at the e30 lights that you just posted, you would notice that the lenses are completely clear, thus they do not hinder light output. Spray tinting your lenses is just downright dumb (and illegal). I award you no points for your stupidity and may God have mercy on your soul.
bro the lense on hella's for the mk3 is smoked. and i know this because i had to change one of my lights since they cracked!
also theres alot of heads on the site that does d.i.y smoked headlights for the e30 by opening the lense and painting the chrome part of the light black.
so if you was smart dont you think that the chrome reflector is the part that makes the light bright/shine?? i rather have my chrome on the inner and lightly smoked on the outter any day plus my car comes with h.i.ds and 1 coat is nothing to worry about!
but what can you do alot of heads like them and some people like you will hate them NUMBNUTS.

Actually with ellipsoids the chrome portion of the light on the low beam isn't a reflector. The light is PROJECTED through a lens. Thus the silver ring around the lens can be painted any color and it will not affect the light output. When painting it black, it gives the illusion of a smoked cover lens while it remains completely clear, thus not hindering the light output.
Now moving on to the high beam on the 'smoked' ellips. The high beam actually uses a reflector (unlike the low beam previously described). However, the reflector is not painted at all and remains silver in order to project as much light as possible. The 'smoked' illusion is obtained by placing black plastic (or painted metal) in a crosshair pattern inside the reflector housing (too hard to describe).
Long story short, the hella or bosch smoked ellips emit the exact same amount of light as the non-smoked ones.
You're decreasing your light output by simply spraying your outer lenses... which is still just as dumb as it was prior to your previous post.
point being tinted lenses reduce visibility hids or not and those guys that painted the inside relfector black are wrong. the reflector is to INCREASE light output so blacking them out and essentially eliminating any and all reflection that was once there completely fubaring your light output.
the RIGHT way to do it is to separate the headlight buckets from the lense and insert a black baffle (hence the crosshair pattern) around the bulb and re assemble. the black baffle reflects on the mirror like surface on the interior of the bucket making it apear darkened or smoked while still maintaining its light reflecting abilities
crap beat me to it
