This tool is for resetting the service interval (SI) lights on all earlier Motronic cars using this diagnostic socket:
All m10 318i's and most all ETA's should have this style diagnostic connector.
As far as I know this tool is a genuine BMW tool, I've only used it once and it worked fine. The label is peeling off and the instructions are all in German anyways. Either way you just plug it in with the key on, turn the tools switch on and press the button... then just watch the lights.
I'm asking $25 for the tool, shipped.
