I hate to be a PITA, but did you actually get to drive/move the car to see it work? I've gone through 4 clusters that will reset the trip odom. and not actually register mileage. (Go figure!)

If it actually registers mileage, consider it sold.

I put the rear of the car on jack stands and left it in gear for a while. The trip odometer moved so I pressed the reset button and tried again. It started to move so I stopped. I didn't leave it for too long after I pressed reset because the car has no exhaust and the people in my neighborhood were complaining. I don't know if the real odometer works because I didn't leave it in gear long enough. I could try again today if you want.
