NON-VANOS, i'm thinking of putting it in a M50 without vanosComment

You won't get a 3.0L with an M52 crank, it's an 84mm stroke. You need an 85.8 stroke 3.0L crank to get that displacement. What bore size did you have in mind?
Bump for a nice price for a forged crank.

I have a non vanos 525 with a blown head gasket. I was thinking of keeping the same size pistons and just getting a crank with a longer stroke.
if the stock pistons exceed the deck by a few mm, i was just going to get a thicker headgasket since it needs to be replaced anyways.
seams that is what the guys fitting 3.0L cranks are doing to make 2.9L M50's

Yep, you can mill the stock M52 pistons and use a 3.0L crank in combo with 135mm rods to have a high c/r 2.9L. I don't know about all M52's, but the aluminum block motors have friction reducing coated pistons that work well. You won't need to run a thicker headgasket, but you can if you'd like. That setup makes massive mid-range punch.I have a non vanos 525 with a blown head gasket. I was thinking of keeping the same size pistons and just getting a crank with a longer stroke.

You have to use M52/custom pistons to run it in a non-vanos. The pistons of the non-vanos have the piston pin 5mm lower in the piston than the M52 pistons, which make them physically taller. My 2.9L Build!
