1997 s52 for sale on Craigslist (Norcross, GA) - $1750

1997 BMW s52 for sale from a 4-door automatic with 162k miles. It's not mine, but I went to see it a couple weeks back and spoke to the seller. Nice guy and he wants this thing gone. The engine runs well and doesn't even have the annoying vanos tick. At any rate....

    a bit OT, but

I know I'll get panned for this, but anybody ever put an automatic S50/52 in an e30?

The trick would be to just get the engine and slap some OBD I equipment on there... Automatic tranny on a s52?! no fun at all....

OK OK it's not the preferred way, maybe it's a bad idea - just askin', that's all.

To answer your question, the e30 automatic tranny's aren't too good, so no no one has done it as far as I know. Has been a few people talk about it, but I've never seen any finish results.

well, in this case I think one would just pull the lump out w/ the AT. I think the real unknown would be with all the electrics that go with the AT.

                    No I wouldn't use the e30 AT.

not sure i'd want to spend the time and money swapping a 162k mile s52 into an e30. that mileage is just too high for me.

What kind of mileage can you expect for a S52 under 2K?

question, would u rather have a 162k mileage engine from a manual or a automatic tranny considering you don't know the vehicles history?

Yep my S52 came mated to an automagic transmission. Got rid of it though, and that's the best thing you can do.

The S52 doesnt fit in the E30 with the auto transmission attached-- God said so.
