        Looks to be a E36 M42, for what that is worth.

                E30 blocks don't have the crank trigger boss at the rear of the block, that is a E36 generational addition to the casting. It also has a E36 valve cover on it with the crankcase ventilation nipple at the rear, E30's are at the front.

                Still no reason it couldn't have come out of a E30, but it originally came from a E36 for sure.
