    WTB: Speedo for 325e

I need a working speedometer/odometer unit for a 1985 325e VDO cluster (non coding plug type, 140 MPH). I don't need another cluster, I have two with everything working except the speedometer. I will take one with broken odometer gears but everything else on the unit must be in good working condition.

If you need any gauges or parts from this type of cluster I'd be happy to work out a trade. I have an SI board in good shape with new batteries.

PM or e-mail if you can help me out.

    Thanks,

    Gipp

I just PM'd you, but then realized mine is from a MotoMeter cluster. Sorry.

So just no speedo?? Have u checked the sending unit wires @ the diff sending unit? I've seen the wires separate from the staycons behind the rubber boot.

I'm pretty sure it's not but I guess it can't hurt to check it. When I bought the car 6 months ago the speedometer worked. When I was replacing the broken odometer gears I broke one of the small copper wires on the speedo. I put the cluster back in and the odometer and speedo didn't function, but the OBC still worked (I could tell my speed by pressing Avg MPH and then resetting the number).

I bought a new cluster (just for the speedo unit) a couple months ago from someone on this forum. It took 4 weeks to get it shipped and when it arrived the pin that holds the needle on the speedometer was broken off. I disassembled both speedo's and tried to put a working one together. No luck. But, on two occasions for about 30 seconds the speedometer started working. This was when the car was very warm after being driven for a couple of hours.

Sorry for the long explanation on a WTB post but I'm tired of removing my cluster and fiddling with the speedometer, trying to make it work. I'm also tired of driving with no speedometer and odometer. If I can't find a VDO speedometer I'll buy a motometer cluster from a later model, like the one cleansti has shown above.
