    WTB M44 head

Anybody here has an M44 head in somewhat decent condition? A buddy of mine needs one. There´s nothing at the moment in other (e36 related) forums that I know of. Please pm with a price and if possible shipping quote to 27604. Thanks!

I don´t know...it´s not even for me...tell me more (something) about its condition, that could help me a lot to make and offer that is fair to both you and me. I´m guessing shipping should be something like $30, no more than $40 from Portland. Just a guess....

I have a machined and cleaned M42 head ready to bolt to a block. They are nearly identical.

        Differences:

M44 = solid lifters, M42 = hydraulic lifters, thermostat provision on the front of the M42 is grooved to accept the older thermostat, the M44 head does not have it and you have to use the plastic housing/thermostat combo. The valve cover breather hose for the M42 is in the front, in the rear for the M44, coolant hose outlet location on the back of the head is different too.

Thanks, Joe. Will the head gasket work? and the bolts are the same in size, lenght and location? Let me talk to the guy (it's not for me) and see what he says. If he's Ok with it, he'll want to know how much do you want for it. Let me know at your earliest convenience.

You would have to use an M44 head gasket. Bolts are the same, casting is pretty much the same so it will bolt up.
