Ive fixed a few of them with JB Weld, its resistant to gas. Clean the area with a brass brush, really clean it, JB Weld over any hole and let it set up for ~ 15 hours. I had an 84 318i that would leak if filled more than 3/4 tank. After the JB Weld it did not leak at all until i sold it 3 years later.
