I have a few, each have been tested in a spare cluster and 100% work. $45 shipped firm.

is there a way to move the batteries to like a seperate box elsewhere in the car? so that dont have to take out entire cluster if they ever go bad again?

Yes just solder leads to the board going to a battery box and then velcro that to the underside of the dash. Or buy the new batteryless boards.

Sure it's been done, taking the cluster in/out though is not really a big deal on a non air bag car. I can probably do it in 20 minutes tops being careful and with my eyes closed. But i've done it many times as I've repaired a few clusters and always test these boards

iirc the batteryless boards exist for the early style clusters and not late model.... early and late model boards DO NOT interchange at all.

does the battery box absolutely have to hold the same exact batteries? or can i just use some other form of recharable batteries? (as long as same voltage....) tryin to keep costs down... haha. thanks much for replies!
