I know this is a WTB ad, but before spending money on a speed sensor, test your current one. It's easy as hell

To test your speed sensor, Just grab a multimeter and put the probes on the contacts. In the lowest resistance position. Spin tire, watch meter. If it moves or changes consistently, it's working.... It's actually pretty odd for it to die. MY bet is wiring is you culprit.

There's quite a few other things that will stop the speedo functioning.

Test number two is to start driving, and tap the cluster or hit the dash above the speedo. This always worked in ALL of the E30's I've driven. open palm. It's basically like giving your car an old fashioned bitch slap.

And yeah, there's two different plug styles between early and late

        Wishno you have a PM.

Thanks Jake. Hitting the cluster does not work. I already installed a new speed sensor. The wiring looks like it is shot for the wiring harness. The contacts are corroded and the wires feel very brittle.
