    ecu wanted

Looking for computer 0261 200 153. also here is my problem if anyone has insite.

I have a 1987 e30 with computer number 0261 200 153. When i purchased the car back in april I was told it only needed a starter motor. It wasnt long before I realized that the altenator was junk too. After installing the two parts i noticed a static noise through the speakers only when cranking over the engine. After a few days of riding around town I started the car up and the idle was searching from 1000 rpm to 2500. I checked the idle motor for resistance and it was ok. My local EURO friend tested the computer of his e30 compared with mine and discovered it was all wrong. So I searched the junkyard database at my local yard and found a computer in PA for 85 bucks. I put it in and the damn thing ran beautiful. however 2 days ago the new (to me ) computer failed. I read on some forum on a google search that aftermarket starer motors have been known to cause problems due to poor remanufacturing. Everyone i talk to says that is bogus and to check my ground straps. I checked all my major grounds and they seem fine. The car has a history of cob wiring from previous owners. I decided to pull the aftermarket radio out tonight to find a rat's nest of electrial tape and spliced wires. after disconnecting the radio i started the car and the "static start" went away. I have no idea why my computers are failing. Hopefully i can figure this out before the car eats another one. If anyone has a computer with my number I can trade you for one out of my local yard or pay cash. Also Im new to the forum so if i did something wrong let me know. Thanks

You don't need to only get a 153 ECU. In fact an upgrade would be a 173 or 525 ECU as then you would be able to get stomp test codes and such if something is going wrong. The static noise from the radio is caused by an incorrect installation of an aftermarket head unit and the noise is coming from your speakers. I would not be so quick to say that an ECU is bad, especially if you have not investigated the problem any further than the car won't start. The ECU has to get power and it could be something as simple as a main relay or the fusible link in the trunk being bad. It could be your fuel pump relay too. I would suggest getting a bentley manual and doing some reading. If you would like to buy an upgraded ECU I have a 173 and a 525 I can sell you. PM me if you have an interest and we can discuss it privately. Good luck!
