I have a set of h&r sport rear springs. I also have a pair of stock fronts that where cut one coil, as described here:
With e90 drop hats the ride height was great.
Here's how my 87 looked.

The ride quality was close to stock. A little stiffer, a little less body roll. A solid compromise, especially for the price. I ran an autocross with it, and I wouldn't say it was up to that, but for a dd it was awesome.
