I don't think so because the M3 is a 4 cyl tach signal while the 325 is a 6. Could be wrong though.

I've done some part# research today and found out that the 318, 325, and m3 all have different coding plugs for the tach. It seems I need one from the 325...

cunninglinguist, now you should check your PM

You will want a e30 325i on for the most "correctness"

the e30 325e will work but will be off 1-200 RPMs

            anything else wont.

Doesn't the 325i one redline higher like at 7k rather than the correct 6k? Mine does.

Somebody might like to save this bit of trivial tachometer coding plug information.

Some coding plug numbers (printed on the long tab of the coding plug) from the TIS:

                06--E30 eta
19--E30 super eta (1988 ) (Note: my MotoMeter super eta cluster didn't have a coding plug)
                17--E30 325i/ic/ix/iS
                12--E30 M3
                11--E28 528e
                18--E28 528e super eta (1988 )
                14--E28 535i/is; also 635CSi and L6 up to 1988; E23 735i/L7
                13--E28 M5; also E24 M6
                20--E24 635CSi 1988 and later

OLD thread bump. What is the source of this 1-200 RPM error?
