My main concern is not the m20, im working on a m50 . The car has an unbelievable ticking sound but I dont want to drop $100+ for new bearings for an engine ima end up swapping out.. I just want used ones so I dont have to listen to the ticking.

Not how it works man. Once the bearings have been installed and used, they're matched to the intricacies they were placed in. Think of them as being machined in unison to match each other. Because that's exactly what happens.....

It's bad juju. Very, very, very bad juju.

If it's ticking. That's usually the head. Down below is knock. Check your lifters.

              x2.

It could be a stuck lifter. Run a quart of ATF through the engine for 100 miles or so.

No it's not. ATF has detergents in it and can loosen up any grime that's making the lifters stick.

So sometimes the rockers get slugged up on the rocker shaft and slow down as a result? I hadn't even considered that this could happen. But I can see how it could. Interesting.

We're talking about a M50 with hydraulic lifters.

I believe he is running a M20 and wants to swap in a M50.

Ticking is usually excessive valve clearance or injectors.

Adjust the valves if you haven't, check that the adjusters are not pitted and worn and that the valve stems are not dished. You might try adjusting with the feeler gauge on the cam side but you will need to compensate the gauge thickness.

Replacing main bearings in an installed motor is not fun or easy and they typically don't wear excessively. When replacing rod bearings you should replace rod bolts as well and they typically don't tick but knock.

I didnt think it would set off a debate lol, ill be checking the valve clearance and injectors and most likely make a video of it running. I was told it can be the bearings so I just went with it.ill post up a video of it running later on today
