Need Manual Trans Selector Rod Seal

I'm so bummed. I am installing a short shift and rebuilt my shift arm and just realized I ordered the wrong seal for the transmission selector rod (this the rod that comes out of the trans that the shift coupler is attached to). Don't feel like paying $9 to ship a $3.00 part from Pelican and would really like to get this together ASAP. Anyone have one? Local in NJ preferred.

Seems like you're close to Guten Parts in South Orange. Levent will take care of you I'm sure.

Thanks- I texted Levent and as usual, immediate reply. Unfortunately he wasn't in the shop today. He can get the seal for me this week though. Swen

BTW- what a BEOTCH getting the old seal out! (when lying on back!).

how did you end up getting it out? I'm about to do this. was thinking of just using a hooked pick.

i've read up somewhere that you actually actually just push the old seal back and pop a new one on it. Some people can fit up 3-5 selector seals into the housing without issue. I actually did that with my trans and i haven't had any leaks since then.

Levent at Guten Parts came thru. As far as getting it out, I used various picks to mutilate the rubber part of the seal. I sprayed liberal amounts of Liquid Wrench and then using a very small screwdriver, placed at about a 45 degree angle, gently tapped at it using a small ball pein hammer on the screwdriver (around the circumference). It finally started to rotate around the shaft, then I was able to pry it out. I did this on my back with trans in car. It's a bitch, but can be done. Can't comment on the "push another seal over it method". Good luck. Just be patient- threw many F bombs during the process!
