    Re:

Grease and a BFH for pilot bearing......std socket and a grinder for the output flange socket. Snap-On has the real socket for ~$45.

how would one use grease and a hammer to pull a bearing out?

I'm not sure about that either but the one you can rent from autozone works fine.

never been able to get the grease trick to work for me.

I have the BavAuto pilot bearing puller and a "custom" socket you can borrow if you want.

The grease trick does work ...just takes a BUNCH of grease though .

Same principle as blowing a safe using water . :D

I've tried that fucking grease trick many times, and it's NEVER worked- so I bought the damn BavAuto tool and have used it once since I got it...... It did work like a champ though.

                Re

Few keys to the grease trick on a pilot bearing...not a safe. Everything to prevent the o.d. of the bearing from sliding rearward out of the crank needs to be addressed....burr, rust, etc. Back of crank needs to be full w/ grease up to the face of the i.d. on the pilot bearing and the o.d. of the drift you use to strike the grease needs to be real close to the i.d. of the pilot bearing.
