    Wtb: Heater Core

YEa...i went to wendy's today and left my bro in the car with the car on. while sitting at ilde it started to smoke and well, the heater core had exploded. Coolant all in the car, windows foggy, messed up my new x-mas cd player...

Does anybody have a good HEATER CORE? i really want to buy a new one since ive gotten the last one at a junk yard but i cant afford 150+ for a new heater core right now.

Anybody know why a heater core blows in the first place; this is the second time it happend in 1 yr? im thinking pressure?

    THanks

    EDIT: looks like this...

The heater cores go from excessive pressure. Does your car have the recall kit installed? I bet not. You need one. It includes a new cap, bypass hose, etc. The heater valves also blow out. I would check yours carefully. Look for distortion at the seam.

There is some othr problem with your car. I've had 7 of these cars, parted 4 of them due to accidents, all heater cores were working fine, mileages in hi 150k to 250k.

I'm selling them whole boxes with everything in them for $25 + expenses. Don't want to bother to take apart.

            the radiators suffered damage.
Now, the boxes I'm talking about are the black boxes with the heat exchangers in them.

Got a link to this recall item to see what years/cars were affected ? Also will a BMW dealer honor it still ?

As of last year, they stopped honoring them for me. I guess BMW figured that 20 years was long enough. I don't have a link. Try google. Maybe somebody has a good used one for you?

I have one. $30 shipped. But I really think you should buy a new one over mine. The newest used ones are still at least 15 years old. And if you already lunched your CD player, cost of a new core is still cheaper than a used core and another CD player, plus the 'pain in the butt' factor.

Mines an '88 M3, same flange as the one you pictured - the only reason I have one is I put a new core in since I play it safe on this stuff.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

                          Nope, that's not it.

It's a couple of molded heater hoses and a 3 or 4 port metal valve that sort of looks like an "H".

I've got a couple of them if you need one, BUT I don't think it's causing your blown heater core problems. If I were you, I'd buy and install a NEW heater core and I think you'll be good for many years to come.

Of course, if you can't afford a new heater core, you gotta do what you gotta do, but I think you're wasting your time and $$$ installing used heater cores.

                          Bret.

but im gonna get a new one later. If you have that valve thing im really interested.

                              Heater cores == gay

Why dont engineers use heating elements like in space heaters?

you would think it would be easier; i thought about rigging something like dat up
