Quality Seat Heaters made from Germany, HeatedSeatKits.com provides low cost heated seat solutions for cars, suvs, and trucks.

Not a ridiculously easy installation, but not technically challenging.

the car has the harness/switches already. i'd rather just go with stock heated seats.

Just offering up the option in case you weren't aware. I was looking for heated seats for mine, but after seeing what they cost and realizing that elements do stop working over time, I decided to go with brand new elements and the DIY install.

Haven't gotten to a full blown write-up yet, but it isn't too hard. Once you figure out how to disassemble the seats, it's pretty simple. :D

I did take a bunch of pictures, though:

that's the part im afraid of :) a few questions, a) does this work with factory harness? b) if i'm going to do this, why not try to retrofit my current seat elements into sport seats? reliability of elements?

It can work with the factory harness, it's just wires. You'd almost certainly have to swap connectors, and I am unsure where the thermostat for factory elements is located, so you'd have to do some research on that. These have a separate little box that contains the thermostat.

I don't know that I would try to remove and reinstall 16+ year old elements into another seat. The ones I used are, obviously, brand new and probably more tolerant of a lot of moving around. These are glued to the foam so they don't move around or bunch up. I would say these are at least as reliable as the original elements.

If you follow along the pictures I took, you can pretty much see how to disassemble the sport seat, but I've never taken a non-sport seat apart. I would suppose that the procedure is pretty similar.

I'll see if I can whip up instructions for the DIY set I installed sometime over the next week or so.
