Yeah they are not cheap. I sold mine for like 450 for just the moonroof without the shade.

Yeah, not a bad idea. Where would we start? To be honest, I think I could make one out of plexiglass. Prob with the Plexiglass is that it warps so it might need some reinforcement but not a bad way to make a few bucks or at the very least have something to write a diy about. I might start by looking for a cheap used regular sunroof and work from there.
