This cap I purchased was $150.
It's a capacitor. A capacitor stores extra power so your stereo system (subs and all) isn't taking a hit on your battery and electrical system. My alternator went before from the constant draw from the battery and the alternator trying to keep up, so I bought this. I just got rid of the car before putting this in tho or else it would have been perfect for my other e30 that I had with the system.
Ever seen someone's headlights dim every time a bass note hits? They should have a cap because that's hurting their electrical system and drawing a ton of power.
Caps were made so that you wouldn't need to purchase a new alternator and would be more cost effective. It will make your bass hit harder because it will give your amp quicker response with more amps. Not super bass and it may not be noticable but there is a difference. It will also make your bass sound cleaner at low octaves. So to clear all the rumors up. Caps were created to ensure no damage to the electric system of your car while creating a cost effective solution to a more powerful connection to your amp
