Just for posterity, I need to post an update on the status of this transaction. When I received the centers, I noticed that the paint was flaking off easily. I tried reaching out to the seller via R3v and email multiple times, but received no response. Then I hired a Powercoater to get these properly refinished since the seller's "Silver with White Effect" paint job was defective. Without even forewarning the Powdercoater, he called me up and asked "Hey were these recently painted? There is something wrong with the paint. It is coming off way too easily". I finally reached the seller via phone, and explained everything to him. He told me that he would call the painter and get back to me. He never did, and continues to screen my calls.

Thanks to the help of a certain forum member here who knows the paint shop, I reached out to the shop owner on my own initiative. He told me that the wheels needed to be bead blasted, and that the seller did not wish to do this. Instead, he stripped them himself (inadequately) and asked for the cheapest, fastest paint job possible. The painter warned him that the paint would not last and would be very poor quality because of cutting corners, but the seller ignored his advice and had him paint them as such.

Now I am out extra cash due to having to refinish wheels that were advertised as minty and fresh, with a reputable paint shop's name attached to the finish. Paypal dispute is open. I hope the seller is reasonable, and takes ownership for this.

This is not the painter's responsibility; it's yours Kahn. For a set of wheels that costs more than most E30s, I expect them to not have any issues with the finish. As such, I expect a refund for my refinishing expenses and the time/hassle of dealing with it.

                        sorry to hear about this.
                        Wheels look great now though

Hope all is solved in the future.

That sucks, Dude. I had to go through the same thing with my RS's, wasn't happy! Good luck trying to get your money back, though.

Wow. That's shitty. It's scary to think of how close I came to buying these. I hope it all gets worked out.

That may not be fair. If you were to drop these off at a paint shop, the labor would be quite high. For instance, it takes me a good three hours to split wheels and probably four to put a set back together. Then you add in the time to strip and repaint, the cost of materials, etc.... you could quickly reach a level at which it would be unfair to the seller. I would suggest getting a quote to refinish and then ask the seller if he is willing to take the wheels back in lieu of the refinish if that quote is unpalatable.

He took just the centers to the painter for painting. He had already split them apart himself and reassembled himself.

I did exactly the same, and I'm ok with doing the disassembly and reassembly on my own time and dime. I was planning on swapping out the lips for narrower lips anyway.

I should clarify, what I'm asking for is a refund for what I paid the powder coater to refinish the already separated centers, and my time and hassle for coordinating everything, transporting the centers to and fro, having to leave work early, etc. I was hoping to simply swap the lips and be ready to roll, and for what I paid for the wheels I think that is a fair expectation. Unfortunately it was not the case.

Thanks for bringing up your perspective. I obviously wasn't clear in my description of what I am requesting.
