you can have thinner adaptors, thinnest ive seen is 20mm.
spacers can be as thin as 5mm.
adaptors are usally so thick b/c the wheels people use with them have such a high offset, 50+
really just comes down to what wheels your trying to runComment

I think i've seen 18mm adapters. Spacers can be damn near as thin as you want them, I've definitely seen 3mm before, maybe less.The first car I ever rode in was an e30
